Welcome to my Art Portfolio. My portfolio is unique because it showcases a breadth of understanding, with depth also attributed to various media. While many artists strive for depth in one specific subject and content area during professional years, I tend to jump from medium to medium after exploring something for a while, and sometimes then I circle back.
I attribute my desire to keep exploring varied media and topics to 1) my passion for the breadth of art education, and 2) to my brain’s unique structural synapse firing. I am a neurodivergent artist with ADHD, so my brain continually craves novelty and new things. To affirm myself, I strive to allow my mind’s impulsivity to guide me forward, so I am proudly an artistic explorer.
Common themes that have emerged in my work over time have been: depictions of human figures, nuances of light, moving water, nature and mountain/desert landscape elements of the West, traditional still life objects and vegetables, buildings or scenes that have some type of unique historical significance to me, and children. Most of my drawings are largely representational. At different points in time, I have swayed into more emotive and dramatic line and shape quality. I have found that I often choose to work on mid-tone paper. Elements in my work generally reflect my mood or life experiences when creating the piece. Some of the charcoal and pastel pieces were illustration commissions, and some of the portrait photography was also produced for others.
I look to some of my favorite artists for inspiration. These include: contemporary charcoal artist Robert Longo, historical photographers Ansel Adams and Imogen Cunningham, southwestern artist Georgia O’Keefe, LDS artist Minerva Teichert, and historical artist Albrecht Durer.
